BiodiversityThe impressions of the biodiversity in the priority Sites of the programme start with an image from the Atlantic coast at the village of Ebodje, Campo Ma’an component. The key species of this site are the sea turtles, here represented by a green turtle. The Campo Ma’an project is located in the tropical rainforest belt, that stretches across the southern portion of Cameroon until the Boumba et Ngoko department, where the South East component is situated.
In the South East the Lobeke National park has been created. In the park this natural forest clearing is found, where forest buffalos and giant forest hogs are grazing peacefully.
On Mount Kupe, one of the mountain peaks in western Cameroon, bird life is very diverse, characterized by a number of endemic species like the Mount Kupe Bush shrike. The fruit eating bat has been found in this region as well.
The Oku Lake and its surrounding forests, in the center of the Kilum-Ijim site, host an extraordinary herpetofaune like the colorful frog and a bird life with some endangered species like the Banded wattle eye.
The last eco-region, where the programme is active is represented by the Savanna component. A large portion of the site is located in the catchment area of the Benue River, here depicted, bordering the Benue National Park. In this area one finds large savanna mammals like hippopotamus, waterbuck and lions.
